Nia, como gosta de ser chamada, recebeu-nos numa casa tipicamente minhota, com lareira acesa, e foi aí que nos mostrou como é fazer os Barquilheres. Pelo nome que têm, pela forma como são feitos e pelo seu aspecto, os Barquilheres descendem directamente ou estão certamente ligados aos Barquillos feitos em Espanha, na zona de Madrid e de Ciudad Real. Em Madrid, existem até os chamados Barquilleros, vendedores ambulantes destes doces, cuja forma de fazer, com as prensas em disco, é igual ao modo de fazer em Vieira do Minho.
Ainda há muita coisa para descobrir e nós vamos continuar a investigar.

Nia, as she likes to be called, welcomed us in a typical house of the Minho region. The fireplace was lit, and there she showed us how one makes Barquilheres. Because of their name, because of the way they’re made, and because of their appearance, the Barquilheres originated directly from, or are certainly tied to, the Barquillos made in Spain, in the area of Madrid and Ciudad Real. In Madrid, there are even the so-called Barquilleros, wandering street vendors selling these sweets; and the way they are made, with a disc-shaped iron press, is the same as in Vieira do Minho.
