Quem é que recusa uma fatia de bolo de chocolate que diz ser o melhor do Ribatejo? Nós não recusámos e assim fomos a uma aldeia do concelho de Azambuja conhecer a Sr.ª Fátima Carvalho e a sua especialidade de fazer crescer água na boca.
Esperou-nos à porta da sua cozinha profissional, devidamente equipada e preparada para fazer este e outros doces, e fez questão de mostrar todos os cantos, com muito orgulho no negócio que criou.
Entre a azáfama de mais uma fornada, foi-nos contando as noites mal dormidas e os meses de trabalho até chegar à receita que agora é constantemente solicitada a revelar. Mas isso não o faz. A receita é sua criação e só ela a conhece, embora nos diga os ingredientes principais: “muito chocolate, muitas gemas e muito, muito amor”. Não insistimos em querer saber a receita; é preciso é que não a deixe de fazer. Dá-nos uma boa notícia: abriu há 7 meses uma loja no Areeiro, em Lisboa, na esquina da Rua Actriz Virgínia com a Almirante Reis. Com pena, conta que gostava de ter a loja mesmo na Avenida de Roma. Propomos o seguinte: abrir uma loja em várias esquinas um pouco por todo o país, pois nunca sabemos quando e onde nos vai apetecer comer o Melhor Bolo de Chocolate do Ribatejo. É tão bom que convinha estar sempre por perto.

Who would refuse a slice of chocolate cake hailed as the best in Ribatejo? We didn’t refuse and so we went to a village in the municipality of Azambuja in order to get acquainted with Mrs. Fátima Carvalho and her mouthwatering specialty.
She welcomed us at the door of her professional kitchen specifically equipped for the production of this and other sweets, and she insisted in showing us every corner, proud of the business she built up.
While working with another batch of cakes, she told us about her sleepless nights and months of work until she managed to figure out the recipe that she is now constantly asked to reveal. But that she won’t do. The recipe is her creation and only she knows it, although she told us the main ingredients: “lots of chocolate, lots of egg yolks and lots and lots of love”. We didn’t insist on knowing the recipe; we only asked her not to abandon it. She gives us a piece of good news: 7 months ago, she opened a shop in Areeiro, Lisbon, at the corner of Rua Actriz Virgínia with Almirante Reis. She laments that she actually wanted to have a shop in Avenida de Roma. We proposed this: to open a shop at several corners throughout the country, for you never know when and where you will have a craving for the Melhor Bolo de Chocolate do Ribatejo. It is so good that it would be a good idea to have it always nearby.
