Um dos raros casos de doces conventuais ainda hoje confeccionados por freiras tem lugar no Mosteiro de Santa Escolástica, em Roriz, concelho de Santo Tirso. São as especialidades claustrais, um sortido de bolachas que ali se começou a fazer em meados do séc. XX.
O processo de confecção mantém-se manual, bolacha a bolacha, incluindo a sua introdução em cada espaço da caixinha. Segundo a actual Madre Superiora, a Irmã Maria do Carmo Tovar, depois de comermos estas bolachinhas, vai bem uma oração. Isto porque “devemos estar atentos às pequeninas coisas da vida”.

A rare caso of conventual sweets that nuns still make today takes place at the Monestary of Saint Scholastica, in Roriz, in the municipality of Santo Tirso. They are called “especialidades claustrais” (cloister delicacies). These assorted biscuits started to be made around the mid 20th century.
The whole process is still manual, cookie by cookie, including their placement in each area of the box. According to Mother Superior Maria do Carmo Tovar, one should say a prayer after having some of these biscuits. This is because “we should value small things in life”.
