Basta olhar para este doce e percebe-se a perfeita adequação do nome que lhe deram: rochedo. Quais formações rochosas, o doce tem fendas, irregularidades, pedaços que ameaçam desmoronar-se, enfim, uma delícia estrutural feita de amêndoa, claras de ovo e açúcar.
Os rochedos estão ligados a outro doce de Alfândega da Fé, o barquinho. É que a receita deste último utiliza apenas as gemas de ovo e, assim, as claras sobrantes inspiraram a criação dos rochedos. Agora, quando se faz um doce, faz-se o outro, o barquinho navegante e o mostrengo rochedo.

Just looking at this sweet makes you quickly realize how well it fits its name: “rochedo” (rock). It really looks like a rocky formation, with crevices, irregularities, chunks that threaten to collapse… all structurally made with almonds, egg whites, and sugar.
The “rochedos” are connected with another sweet from Alfândega da Fé, the “barquinho” (small boat). The thing is, the recipe of the latter uses egg yolks only, so the leftover whites inspired the creation of the “rochedos”. Now, when one sweet is made, the other is made too: the sailing boat and the monstrous rock.
